Customer report

The customer reported that water flow from the kitchen mixer had significantly reduced and confirmed that the mixer itself was not leaking. The service request focused on restoring normal water delivery from the kitchen fixture. During the assessment of the existing installation, the plumbing configuration was reviewed to determine the work required before replacing the affected components.

Diagnosis & Technical Assessment

The service commenced with isolating the water supply before removing the existing kitchen mixer. During assessment of the installation, the technician identified that a right-angle flexi connection was required due to the existing luggie location, necessitating a replacement installation to accommodate the available pipe configuration.

The existing kitchen mixer was disconnected to allow installation of the replacement assembly and associated plumbing components. New combi and mini components were incorporated into the installation, while the existing pressure-limiting valve connection serving the dishwasher was retained and connected to the new plumbing arrangement.

Emergency shut-off mini stop valves were also installed as part of the completed work. These valves allow isolation of individual fixtures for future maintenance and repairs while supporting plumbing installations that comply with AS/NZS 3500. Following completion of the replacement work, the installation underwent operational testing before the service was concluded.

All work was completed in accordance with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) regulatory framework.

Solutions delivered

The existing kitchen mixer was removed after the water supply had been isolated. A new square kitchen mixer was supplied and installed together with new combi and mini plumbing components required for the replacement.

A right-angle flexi connection was installed to suit the existing pipe layout and luggie location. The existing pressure-limiting valve connection for the dishwasher remained in service and was connected to the completed installation. A pair of emergency shut-off mini stop valves was also installed to enable isolation of individual fixtures for future servicing and maintenance activities while supporting compliance requirements referenced in AS/NZS 3500.

After all plumbing connections had been completed, the installation was tested to confirm operation before the work was finalised.

Outcome & Results

The existing kitchen mixer was replaced, and associated plumbing components were upgraded as part of the completed installation. Emergency shut-off valves were incorporated to improve future fixture isolation for maintenance, while the dishwasher connection remained integrated with the plumbing system. Following completion of the installation, operational testing was carried out before the work was concluded.

All work was carried out in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and safety requirements.

Repair vs Replacement

Reduced water flow at a kitchen mixer may be addressed either by repairing individual components or by replacing the complete mixer, depending on the condition of the existing installation and the approved scope of work. In this project, the kitchen mixer was replaced, along with the installation of new isolation valves and associated plumbing components. Where fixture isolation improvements form part of the approved works, incorporating emergency shut-off valves can simplify future servicing and maintenance without affecting other plumbing fixtures.
