Customer report
The customer reported a leaking bathroom sink tap at a residential property in Kew. Additional context indicated that the building has high water pressure and that the bathroom sink tap had not been addressed during a prior visit. The customer requested assessment of the leak and completion of any required plumbing works to resolve the issue.
Diagnosis & Technical Assessment
The reported issue involved a leaking basin tap within the bathroom. Based on the technician work notes, the existing basin tap set was disconnected and removed. Two new isolation valves were installed prior to fitting a replacement basin set.
The work notes indicate that the replacement approach was selected to address the leak rather than attempting component-level repair of the existing tap assembly. The presence of high water pressure within the building was noted in the customer report.
Testing of the installed components was carried out following reinstatement of the water supply. No additional issues were noted during testing. Work notes confirmed that the replacement basin set was installed and operational.
All work was completed in accordance with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) regulatory framework.
Solutions delivered
The solution delivered involved replacement of the existing bathroom basin tap set. The old tap assembly was disconnected and removed from the basin. Two new isolation valves were installed to allow controlled shut-off of the water supply to the fixture.
A new complete basin set was then installed and secured in place. The water supply was reinstated and the installation was tested to confirm correct operation and absence of leaks. Labour time recorded for the replacement basin set installation was 1.08 hours.
Tools, Parts & Systems Used
- Replacement basin set
- Isolation valves
- Flexible water hose
Outcome & Results
The leaking bathroom basin tap was resolved through replacement of the tap assembly. Testing of all works was recorded following installation, with no further issues noted. The job was completed for the invoiced scope of works.
Repair vs Replacement
For leaking basin taps, replacement may be selected where the existing tap assembly is worn, incompatible with available components, or where a full fixture change is required to restore reliable operation. Repair may be considered when leaks are isolated to individual components such as washers or cartridges.
In this job, replacement of the complete basin set was selected to address the reported leak. Installing new isolation valves also allows future maintenance or repairs to be carried out without shutting off water supply to the entire property.
