Customer report
The customer reported several issues at a South Yarra residential property, including a dripping tub tap and concerns about water pressure. Additional issues raised included checking whether an existing gas heater was operational and a gas stove burner that was not lighting. The customer requested assessment of the reported plumbing issues and completion of any required repairs that could be resolved during the visit.
Diagnosis & Technical Assessment
The job involved multiple reported plumbing and gas-related issues within the property. A technician observation noted that the bath spout retained a significant amount of water, which continued to drip until the retained water drained, after which the dripping stopped.
Based on the scope of work recorded, the primary plumbing issue addressed related to the shower and mixer assembly. Water supply was isolated to allow removal of the existing mixer handle and non-standard cartridge. The existing shower handpiece was also removed for replacement.
All work was completed in accordance with the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) regulatory framework.
Solutions delivered
The completed works focused on domestic plumbing repairs associated with the bathroom fittings. The existing shower handpiece was removed and replaced with a new unit. Water supply was isolated to safely remove the mixer handle and non-standard mixer cartridge, which was replaced before reassembly.
The installation was tested following reassembly to confirm functionality. Optional works relating to the gas heater and gas supply were quoted but were not included in the final invoiced scope and were therefore not carried out during this visit. All removed components and waste materials were cleared from site at job completion.

Repair vs Replacement
For domestic plumbing issues such as dripping taps or worn shower fittings, repair is commonly selected when the issue can be resolved through component replacement. Mixer cartridges and handpieces are wear components that may degrade over time and cause leaks or dripping.
Replacement of individual components may be preferred where the underlying plumbing system remains serviceable. Full fixture replacement is generally considered when component compatibility is not available or when repeated failures occur. In this job, targeted component replacement was selected to address the identified issues without replacing the full fixture.
